Ensuring a sustainable tomorrow starts with the work we do today. We have been helping our customers save energy and money with energy-efficiency programs for more than 40 years. Tampa Electric is the state's top producer of solar energy per customer, powering more than 100,000 homes, businesses and schools by the sun, with strategic plans to double that by the end of 2023. Our innovation and investments in clean energy are reducing emissions and waste, even as our community grows – and we are developing new programs to protect and preserve Florida's natural beauty while meeting your present and future energy needs.

Reducing Emissions & Waste

Since 1999, we've committed to a sweeping environmental improvement plan, with a key component of that being to reduce emissions while keeping rates affordable for our customers. We've decreased emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide by more than 90 percent, and carbon dioxide by 50 percent. Plus, with our focus on growing solar energy production, we're dramatically reducing carbon dioxide emissions. By 2023, that reduction will equate to removing more than 1 million cars from local roadways.

Generating More Solar Energy

Tampa Electric is the state's top producer of solar energy per customer with our solar projects powering more than 100,000 homes, businesses and even schools with the sun. By 2023, Tampa Electric will have nearly 14 percent of its energy generated from the sun – the highest percentage of solar generation of any utility in the state – enough to power more than 200,000 homes.

Conserving Energy & Water

Tampa Electric offers more energy-efficiency programs than any other electric utility in the state run by our team of nationally certified energy experts. Available to all customers, our energy-efficiency programs offset the need to generate enough electricity to power nearly 12,500 homes in a year. Additionally, our solar fields housed on old farming parcels require minimal water usage, allowing us to save billions of gallons of water on water permits, preserving that precious resource.

Conserving Wildlife & Habitat

We take pride in ensuring the safety and habitats of incredible wildlife here in Florida. We were the first utility in Florida to set up an Avian Protection Plan for migratory birds, preventing them from electrocution and collisions with electric infrastructure. In addition, our Big Bend Power Station provides a warm water home for manatees in the winter months. The majestic creatures flock to the canal each winter and make for incredible sights for millions of people at our Manatee Viewing Center, which opened in 1986.
