Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in the Ybor City and Palmetto Beach areas of Tampa. We are upgrading existing power lines in your neighborhood, which will bring improved reliability and greater storm resistance to homes and businesses.
Tampa Electric will upgrade about four miles of an existing power line between the Marion Substation, at 1502 N. Marion St., and the Hookers Point Substation, 1900 E. Hemlock Ave. Some of the line runs along Palm Avenue through Ybor City and south along 22nd Street and U.S. 41. Please see attached map. Equipment at both substations and some poles also will be upgraded. These improvements are needed to ensure homes and businesses in your area continue to receive reliable power.
Some poles will be replaced with new steel or concrete poles, up to 75 feet tall, which is similar to or slightly taller than the existing poles. Two poles that span the Selmon Expressway will be taller. Traffic will be temporarily disrupted during the installation of the equipment, with intermittent lane closures and detours. Residents may hear some construction-related noise, mostly during daylight hours on weekdays. Tree trimming and clearing will begin in September. Construction is scheduled to begin in October and will be complete by summer of 2024. We urge residents to drive cautiously during construction for the safety of other residents and our Tampa Electric crews.
If you would like to learn more about this project, please plan to attend our open house, when Tampa Electric representatives will be available to answer your questions from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at The Cuban Club, 2010 N. Avenida Republica de Cuba, Tampa, FL 33605. (This meeting was rescheduled from an earlier date due to Hurricane Idalia.)
We appreciate your patience as we improve your reliability. If you cannot attend the open house but have questions about the upgraded power line, please call 813-275-3496.
