Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity in the Boyette, Balm, Fishhawk and Lithia communities today and in the future. We are installing a new power line in these neighborhoods, which will improve electricity reliability and storm resistance for homes and businesses. Tampa Electric is:
- Installing a new power line along 5.5 miles of Boyette Road between Fishhawk Boulevard and Hobson Simmons Road in Lithia. Crews may temporarily close one lane of Boyette Road as needed during this work. The new steel poles will be up to 75 feet tall and no more than 24 inches in diameter at ground level.
- Installing a new 4.5-mile power line along a Tampa Electric-owned former rail corridor from Boyette Road near Hobson Simmons Road to Tampa Electric’s existing County Road 672 Substation.
- Expanding operations near the substation to include office trailers, parking and staging areas that will be used for new power lines.
Please refer to the downloadable project map and this interactive map that further describes the project area and construction process.
Tree trimming and clearing for this project began in September 2023. Construction is expected to begin in winter or spring of 2024. We urge residents to drive cautiously during construction for the safety of other residents and our Tampa Electric crews.
