Main panel surge protection device (SPD)
The Main Panel Surge Protection Device is installed at the main panel of your business or at the sub-panel. Any expended modules or damaged units are replaced at no cost to you.
We offer the MST Series, a modular, parallel installed SPD designed for commercial and industrial applications. Models provide 50kA of surge energy handling per phase. This rating is 5 times the energy handling of the IEEE's highest Category C location rating of 10kA/20kV.
MST units incorporate a replaceable MT protection module that is completely self-contained. In the unlikely event of a failure, the MT module is replaceable in the field, thereby eliminating the need to remove the entire unit from service. Servicing and replacement may require a brief electrical outage.
All models carry a 100kA rms symmetrical fault current rating making expensive disconnects and costly replacement fuses unnecessary. When replacing a MT module, the entire operating unit including all phases, all modes, the fuses and even the diagnostics is replaced. This eliminates potential weak elements that might have sustained damage or degradation during a fault event.
The MST Series ranges in price from $30 to $40 plus tax per month depending on the model. The monthly fee and one-time installation charge are conveniently added to your electric bill.
Features
Main panel surge protection device (SPD) highlights:
- Installed in a rugged weather-proof enclosure (8.5"w x 10.25"h x 6"d)
- Convenient replaceable module with "protection on" LED indicators
- Response time of less than 5 nanoseconds
- Expended modules or damaged units are replaced at no cost to you
- Protection: L-N and N-G for Wye service; L-G for Delta service
- MCOVs: 150, 180, 320 and 550 volts (depending upon application)
- ETL listed to UL standard 1449, 3rd edition SPD
You should check your Zap Cap Systems units regularly. If the diagnostic lights are not illuminated, the unit is not functioning properly and should be reported to Tampa Electric.
