We’ve got friends in high places – and so do you!

Our lineworkers sometimes go 150 feet above the ground to keep the power humming for everyone.

But that’s not all they do. Their job also requires carrying at least 30 pounds of equipment, wearing fire-retardant clothing in the heat of the summer and sometimes traveling far from home to help others when disaster hits. For them, that’s a typical workday.

That’s why each year we look forward to April – also known as Lineworker Appreciation Month at Tampa Electric – so we can honor and recognize the hard work, innovation and dedication of our electrical lineworkers.

Lineworkers are the backbone of our electrical infrastructure. They climb towering poles, work on live wires, and navigate safely through treacherous conditions to ensure electricity reaches our homes, schools, hospitals and businesses. Whether it's a stormy night or a scorching summer day, they’re on the front lines – responding to outages, repairing damaged lines and restoring power to our communities.

The work is grueling and often unpredictable. Our lineworkers receive frequent training and support to help ensure their safety and that of the communities we serve.

“What it really comes down to is safety and making sure everybody makes it home,” says Sam Bump, a veteran Tampa Electric lineworker.

Please help us thank our lineworkers for the powerful difference they make in our lives! Just comment on our Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram posts as we honor those who light up our community.

If you or someone you know aspires to be a lineworker, check out our training program – offering full scholarships – in partnership with Hillsborough Community College.
