Tampa Mayor Jane Castor is a leader – of the city, and now also her home’s energy costs.

Mayor Castor recently had a free, in-home energy audit performed by Tampa Electric’s expert team, to learn where she could save on her energy costs. The audit revealed valuable insights that could help every homeowner save on energy bills.

Our auditors found that Mayor Castor’s home would benefit from additional ceiling insulation and ductwork sealing – both of which qualify for a rebate.

"Sealing ductwork and adding ceiling insulation is pivotal," explained David Klee, an Energy Management Analyst II at Tampa Electric. “These simple upgrades can increase comfort by reducing heat transfer from the attic to the conditioned space of the home.

In addition to these improvements, our energy experts shared practical tips with the Mayor:

  • Perform Regular AC Maintenance: Check and change AC filters monthly to ensure optimal performance.
  • Use Thermostats Wisely: Set your thermostat to 78 degrees when at home. If you're away for more than four hours, increase it to 82 degrees, or higher, to save energy. Each degree increase can lower cooling costs by up to seven percent.
  • Use Ceiling Fans: Running ceiling fans in occupied rooms allows you to raise the thermostat setting while maintaining comfort.

In addition to in-home energy audits, Tampa Electric offers customers a personalized online energy audit that provides useful insights, alerts, energy usage monitoring and instructional videos, plus more than 30 energy-saving programs in total.
