Tampa Electric donated nearly 40 trees to the University of South Florida to help celebrate Arbor Day.
In honor of Arbor Day today, Tampa Electric is sharing our love for trees with students. Our company donated nearly 40 trees to the University of South Florida, to be planted on campus. That’s in addition to the 500 seedlings we donated to Foster Elementary School earlier this year.
At the same time, Tampa Electric is also being recognized for the care we take in protecting the community’s trees. For the 15th year in a row, we have earned Tree Line USA® status from the National Arbor Day Foundation™ in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters. That means Tampa Electric crews prioritize the health of trees they must trim near power lines to help maintain 99.98 percent reliability.

If you didn’t know, a tree that contacts a power line can create a safety hazard and can also lead to power outages. Tampa Electric maintains about 6,300 miles of overhead distribution power lines, including trimming trees along nearly 2,000 miles every year. Our contracted crews follow strict safety and tree health standards when they trim vegetation.
Line Clearance Arborist Thomas Moore and team deserve a special shout-out for working year-round to ensure we exhibit quality tree care practices, complete annual worker training and participate in tree planting and public education. Their team is also responsible for applying each year to achieve the prestigious Tree Line USA designation.
