TECO hit the ground walking on Friday, Feb. 3 for a cause that’s close to our hearts—literally. For 2023 National Wear Red Day, our Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas team members joined the American Heart Association and journeyed to the historic sidewalks of Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa to show the world what heart health means to us, one energetic step at a time.
Led by Tampa Electric’s Vice President of Safety and Security Heidi Whidden, people across the company waved to drivers and earned happy honks in return. The theme of this year’s event was “Be the Beat” to encourage every family to have at least one family member learn the life-saving skill of Hands-Only CPR. As Heidi mentions in the video above, if Derek and Levi Stock taught us anything, it is what a difference CPR training can make. Also, in the video you’ll hear what motivated other team members to don red before hitting the pavement.
Across all our sites, many Tampa Electric team members wore red to show support to those fighting heart disease and as a reminder to take care of our own hearts.
